Buddha is Synonymous With Nepal (Faith Never Fades Away)
Kamala Prasai
Published in e-Kantipur in International Coverage Section, Newsblaze, DC Nepal, Janapukar, etc.
NEW YORK , JAN 14 - 2010.
The best-seller book, "The Post American World" by Dr. Fareed Zakaria, published in 2008, recently created controversy among the Buddhist community throughout the world.
Dr. Zakaria's distortion of the fact that Buddha was born in India offended Nepali people. Dr. Zakaria holds a Ph. D. from Harvard. He received his doctorate in Political Science under renowned Professor Samuel P. Huntington and was enlightened by another renowned Professor Stanley Hoffman.

Dr. Zakaria is an editor and regular Newsweek columnist whith 24 million readers. Dr. Zakaria hosts a show on CNN called, "International Affairs Program". He offers on a regular basis, his writings on foreign affairs. There is much more to him. If a man of his standing misleads readers on important subjects he may have some other intent in his mind and that might be a very ill-motivated one.
Intellectuals think Dr. Zakaria's intention is to create fissures between Hindus and Buddhists and between the people of two countries, India and Nepal and for instability in the South Asian region to fuel some psychological fear to the Chinese establishment.
Instability in South Asian region means the likelihood of China's instability which might cost the overall rapid progress of China. A halt in China's progress is a direct blow to the US economy because it is very much dependent on China's big investment and its cheap commodities.
Simple as it is, the faith of a person in this heavenly earth never fades away. The crumbling US economy and its collapse to a major or regional power status is only a victory to the Satan who forced the tears of many deeply hurt people remembering the eighth anniversary of the fallen twin towers.
Lord Buddha who was not required then to receive citizenship was born in Lumbini, the western part of Nepal. He definitely went to Gaya, now in India, for enlightenment but never received any citizenship from any part of the present day India.
To be pointed, India is one of the very few young nations, which was born only after the British left it in 1947. Nepal existed even before Buddha's forefathers rose to power.
Buddha was born to a Hindu ruler. Buddhism was his creation. Buddhism became a religion because human beings thrive for peace rather than violence. There are very few books that instigate violence and killing of innocents as their pathway to heaven.
The teachings of Buddha never accept the pains and sufferings of living creatures. Had Buddha's teachings prevailed, the Twin Towers would have been the major attractions of the tourism. Unfortunately, the evils took pride in the collapse of the Twin Towers thinking American pride would be shattered. American pride will never shatter because it represents freedom. The want of freedom cannot be kept under a piece of cloth.
We can hope, Dr. Zakaria is not provoking Harvard University to revoke his Ph. D. or shaming his widely acclaimed professors Samuel Huntington and Stanley Hoffman by creating confusion on Lord Buddha.
The hundreds of millions of Buddhists often remind the world that Lord Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal.

Republic: what kind of?
By: Kamala Prasai
Where to begin? What to write? My hands shake while writing or my mouth dries uttering a word- Republic. These eyes seem to be closed. Those avenues seem to be blocked. This mouth which echoes the voices for the nation looks shut off. What kind of Republic is this?
The pride which was secured from generations has been pushed to division- is it what the leaders of New Nepal want? Is it for what the leaders feel proud to have Republic ladened by the pariahs? What kind of Republic is this?
Under the serfdom of pariahs, the leaders were readied to put a sale tag on the nation. Under the pariahs' instruction, the cultures, traditions and customs have been sold. Under these pariahs' dictate, the leaders are about to pick up the pen to ink the new Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic Nepal. There was already in place that the cow which was about to give a birth to a calf has been chopped to celebrate the Republic in Pokhara. Is this the beginning of the establishing norms and values for the new Federal Democratic Republic Nepal?
The pseudo people's mandate allowed the leaders of New Nepal to wash their hands that were colored with the blood of the people. Unfortunately, before drying their hands, these leaders want to color their hands with the people's blood to untie the bonds of the Nepalese by dividing Nepal to the pre-unification period.
The leaders of Republic Nepal are all set to disintegrate Nepali land into pieces followed by tagging a price on them as per the whistle that is already on the way to reach their ears. These leaders are fighting to become first among themselves to hear the neighbors' whistle. Interestingly, those who cannot become first to hear the loud whistle are bound to settle with a dimmer sound. Be aware! Those who heard the whistle to establish Republic, now, have to think that the tsunami that came in Nepal with the neighbor's whistle has already gone. They should know a tsunami comes once in a lifetime, creates havoc and vanishes for centuries. Republic Nepal which came as a tsunami with the whistle of neighbor that created havoc in Nepal will inevitably vanish very soon from the land of Nepal for centuries. The daughters and sons of brave Nepali ancestors are everywhere to clean the up mess created by the havoc of the tsunami with the pariahs' whistle and make it clean as it had been.

Press Release: Nepal ushers into fractions
Following the declaration of Federal Democratic Republic Nepal, it reentered into the history where Nepalese people left 239 years ago. Now, it is very likely that Nepal will find its disintegration at some point. The leaders of Republic Nepal under the disguise of the foreign hands, agreed to establish Nepal, a playground to destabilize the whole region. The so called leaders of civil society who led the people's crowd at the Constituent Assembly (CA) have also made their foreign bosses happy like the members of the CA did. Just a few years back during the panchayati system Nepal was destined to become a 'Zone of Peace' but the Southern neighbor never wished to see that just because it thought Nepal should remain under its grip and should not have independent decision as an independent nation. Late King Birendra, rather than to bow down to the Indian authority, went onto relinquish his power. In the same manner, King Gyanendra, in stead of bowing down by accepting dominance, let the Nepali leaders to look after the national affairs with the people's aspirations. However, the cunning leaders of Nepal, at once, cheated the people and the King, and clandestinely worked to satisfy the hidden hands. The result is the establishment of the Republic Nepal.
The leaders of New Nepal are those who are responsible to invite Maoists insurgency. They are the one who must share responsibilities with Maoists for killings of 15000 plus innocent Nepali people and amassing the huge fortune. Only a few leaders like Sujata Koirala (Prime Minister Koirala's daughter), Jhala Nath Khanal (UML General Secretary), Bam Dev Gautam's accounts exceed far more than the whole Royal properties. There are other several party leaders whose wealth stands in par with the Royal family. In the same manner, the civil society leaders have amassed the fortune under the name of poor and hungry Nepali people. How come they think about 30 million people felt happy while declaring Republic? Can someone be happy when losing his or her cultural, religious and traditional rights? It is for sure the streets around the Constituent Assembly have filled with joy and that might also extend to some parts of the country and abroad where Nepalese have reached. This should not be implied to all of the Nepalese living throughout Nepali land and abroad. They might worry about the peace of Nepal and the unity among Nepalese have become fairy-tale.
It is not at all tolerable for the deeds of the leaders who for the short term gain declared Republic by destroying religion, culture, tradition, beliefs, and national dignity. The Nepalese people will never believe that the leaders of Republic can represent Nepal outside the world. All of you have already tested. Many of you, people view, as corrupt and immoral and others are colored with people's blood.
Make sure, we will rise again to protect our religion, culture, tradition and our Nepali national dignity.

Demand for The Culture and Tradition Friendly Nepal
By Kamala Prasai
In the way that the King loves Nepal, the political leaders never have and never will. The testimony to this is the 2046 (1990) people's movement-1. Then 57 Nepali people died and the leaders could get democracy. Today's political leaders like GP Koirala, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal, Bav Dev Gautam are few of them who made people sacrifice their lives but these leaders enjoyed democracy for their own sake. When the Late King Birendra was informed that 57 people had lost their lives during the movement, he immediately wished to abrogate party-less panchayat system. He saw that people's lives are more valuable than his direct rule. He easily agreed to reestablish the multi-party democracy without hesitation.
Following the advent of democracy, the Late King Birendra thought people will be delivered with what they deserved, food, shelter, education, peace and happiness. Unfortunately, King Birendra had to lose his life and could not see people's happiness delivered by the political parties and the leaders.
Ironically, people got what they have never wished for, crime, corruption that strikes on a daily basis, insecurity, killings, and so on. No change has been witnessed at all during the rule of the political parties. The incumbent Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has to take the major share for this blame because he ruled more than combined of all leaders.
Definitely, leaders of Nepali Congress like Sher Bahadur Deuba, Ram Chandra Poudel, RPP leaders Lokendra Bahadur Chand, Surya Bahadur Thapa, Pashupati SJB Rana, UML leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal and Bam Dev Gautam are also responsible for destroying democratic norms and values. These leaders besides emptying national treasuries encouraged nepotism and opened the avenues for the foreigners to encroach in the internal affairs of Nepal.
At the other end, in the name of revolution, the Maoists completely destroyed Nepal's economic infrastructures, basically tourism and other foreign currency earning industries. The Maoists at the same time attacked upon Nepal's unique reservations of traditions and cultures, not to mention the extortion, kidnapping and killings. All these compelled King Gyanendra to risk his throne.
King Gyanendra gave up his direct rule to avoid further destruction of economic development infrastructures, sacrifices of Nepali citizens and the negative international image of Nepal. To remind all, less than 20 people have been recorded for giving their lives during the Jana Andolan II. People have witnessed many times more deaths of their fellow citizens after the Seven Party Alliance and when the Maoists ruled Nepal. Now, who cares more about the Nepali people's lives, economic development, international image of Nepal, independence and sovereignty of a country? Is it the King or the immoral leaders?
Never in the history of Nepal, the patriots, intellectuals, the great writers like Laxmi Prasad Devkota, Bhupi Sherchand, Parijat, Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Hari Bhakta Katuwal, Chhetra Pratap Adhikari, artists and great singers like Nati Kaji, Narayan Gopal, Prem Dhoj, Tara Devi, Shambhujit Baskota have ever blasted against the Kings' small mistakes. It is because they all knew that Nepal without Monarchy has completely no meaning. Like they, we all know, Monarchy is the symbol of national unity, guardian of Nepali identity, cultures, traditions and religions practiced in Nepal.
Nepal becomes more intimate when you are very far away from Nepal. As a Diaspora, we can feel every beat of our motherland. We are really worried about the future of Nepal. We always want Nepal to be a peaceful and peace loving nation like it used to be several years ago. All Nepal friendly foreigners also wish to see Nepal, a peaceful, developed, democratic, culture and tradition friendly nation.

Nepal: We are Looking For
By Kamala Prasai
First of all, we would like to congratulate the people of Nepal who took part in the constituent assembly elections without fear. Still, about 40 percent Nepalese missed a once in a lifetime event. So many reasons might have compelled them to refrain from that. And about 60 percent who took part were also threatened, intimidated and forced to abandon their desire from being persecuted in the hands of so-called proletariats. No doubt, life is more precious than anything else especially for the people who lives in remote areas and who know very little about the importance of a ballot and the Constituent Assembly. Ironically, a bullet sounds scarier.
Leaders of the New Nepal, who were given the verdict from less than one-thirds of the population are dreaming to replace the institution of Monarchy, which is 240 years old. In fact, Nepal has never lived without this institution. Kings of Nepal is the source of our continuity, may it be Gopals, Kirats, Lichhavis, Mallas or Shahs. If a supreme commander of the rebellion force of the New Nepal wants to begin his own Dahal dynasty replacing King Gyanendra, the people of Nepal have nothing to say. But, the question is: will Dahal Dynasty with less than one-thirds of the people's support deserves to bear the responsibility that King Gyanendra hitherto been bearing with the love and respect of at least 90 percent of Nepali populace?
If Mr. Dahal, Pushpa Kamal, and his aide Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, C. P. Gajurel, Badal or others really want to test how much the King enjoys respect from the Nepali people, the referendum is the very best option. Don't even think that Nepali people will let you dream about looking at the crown from the close distance. Mr. Dahal seems to be in a hurry to make history. You have already made a history by killing about 15,000 innocent men and women. Don't you think Mr. Dahal, about the big hearts of the Nepali people?
Remember, they readied to forgive you only if the deeds of your past would be corrected genuinely. Otherwise, where are you going to hide? Can your cadets save you from the people's tsunami. Do you think you have YCL and others cannot establish stronger than YCL?
The people of Nepal during the multi-party democracy did not get anything from the Nepali Congress and the UML. They were completely ignored. Nepotism and rampant corruption were prevalent then. Each and everyone who were given responsibilities to deliver goods for the people acted very irresponsibly and looted national treasury. People were denied with the very basic necessities like food, shelter, health care, education and security. This is what the people remembered before casting their ballots. It is not because Maoists had better solutions or that they will deliver in people's favor that prompted people to make rebellions victorious.
The people being cheated by the two major political parties for fifteen years are what the people repaid them. The people's wish neither to have been directed against the Hindu religion nor against the institution of Monarchy. Otherwise, more than two-thirds of the people would not have rejected the Maoists philosophy. As per the rule of the political game, if a few other political parties support, Maoists can form the government for the purpose of facilitating the process of making the new Constitution which will usher into New Nepal.
In no way, New Nepal means just the new faces. Peace should prevail over intimidation, murder and extortion. Corruption and nepotism must not have any place. The foreign dominance has to be completely routed. Preservation of culture, tradition and religion should not be ignored. There must be a guarantee of education for all, equality, generation of employment for youths, security, basic human rights, and the freedom to speak and write against the government's inefficiency should not be barred. The women should get shared equally in all Government's sectors. New Nepal should be very meaningful.

Nepal: In need of a leadership
By: Kamala Prasai
New York

New York

The leader is one who touches the heart of the millions. The millions keep a leader inside their heart with respect. However, we Nepalese are very unfortunate not to have any such leader. At present, there is no one whom people can find a quality of leadership. The leader should have no personal interests. The interests of the leader are confined to the welfare of the nation and the people. The persons working for the party and family interests are not the leaders but the family heads and the agents of the party. At most, they could be pin-pointed as the politician. Nepal is in complete division. No one is ready to accept other’s point of view. There is very little chance that all views are amalgamated and brought into a useful compound. No one is ready to listen to the real masses. Had there been any leader, he or she might have stood up and said it is the people whose voice needed to be heard. Once the people’s voice is heard, it is very likely the position of a politician is eroded. Here, why Nepal’s politicians are in favor of division among the Nepalese people. ‘Divide and rule’ is the ultimate goal of all to remain on the helm of the society by protecting the status of politicians. There were few persons who had some quality of leadership. Among them, I can count these names: BP Koirala, Subarna Shumshere, Ganesh Man Singh, Manmohan Adhikari, CK Prasai and Krishna Prasad Bhattarai. It might be my personal opinion. These leaders never though of dividing nation and the people for the personal or party interests. They all followed the Great King Prithvi Narayan Shah’s principle of having single Nepal. They felt proud to salute the Great King Prithvi Narayan Shah. But the present politicians and many others saw our history of bravery as fault because of their deep-rooted interests. I was very much attracted to the politics and social services. I served as President of the Student’s Union representing Nepal Student’s Union affiliated to Nepali Congress. Following the removal of the Monarchy, Hindu religion and the efforts to bring Nepal’s division, like many of us, I also began to have no respect and trust upon the Nepali politicians. We, Nepalese need the leader who can unite us together, who can protect our glorious past and lead to the better future. It is only the Crown which can protect our unity and lead to better future. Hence, the relevance of the Crown still exists.
